ABOUT US

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Bajan Diaspora Online, LLC, is a Limited Liability online magazine for Barbadians, descendants of Barbadians, and those who would like to know about Barbados and Barbadian culture.

The publication serves to restore our national pride and unity in our homeland,  as many Bajans tend to lose track of friends, relatives and loved ones after they have left Barbados.

Our objective is to treasure our beautiful Island in the sun, and willed to us by our Forefathers’ hands, to its once majestic status of a being a Paradise on Earth for Bajans and Visitors alike.

OUR HISTORY

Mary Yearwood

Barbados is the eastern-most Caribbean island.  The history of the early settlement of Barbados is being rewritten as a result of recent archaeological discoveries unearthed at the site of Port St. Charles. Artifacts and evidence point to settlement some time around 1623 B.C.  The first indigenous people were Amerindians who arrived here from Venezuela.

HELLO EVERYONE!

     Welcome to Bajan Diaspora Online!

In this special New Year Edition, we will summarize the events surrounding the Epic cultural show, entitled, BARBADOS SPECTACULAR!...Featuring the Legends of Spouge, which was staged at the historic Drill Hall in Barbados, in honor of Barbados' 50th Independence.

Despite numerous obstacles that presented themselves for more than a year of planning, and despite the lack of sponsors to provide the funds needed to stage the show, the organizer and promoter of the event, Bajan Diaspora Entertainment, Inc. stepped out on faith, grit, and sheer determination.

For weeks, and on an almost daily basis, Barbados was experiencing some torrential downpours of rain, which not only affected the originally intended venue, but many island-wide celebrations had to either be postponed or moved to more suitable accommodations.  This meant that with an indoor crowd expected, strict adherrence to crowd capacity would also have to be maintained...and, as it turned out, approximately 300 patrons showed up to cheer on approximately 12 of Barbados' music legends and entertainers, who certainly did not disappoint!

At the start of the event, a few obstacles were encountered; however, by the time showtime began, everyone was eager to hear their favorite Bajan entertainers, which included a line-up with names, such as Lew "Jiggs" Kirton, Aubrey Mann, Lew Drayton, Winston "Go-Flook" Richards, Richard Stoute, Roger Gibbs, Tony Grazette, and a host of other well-known and not so well-known singers.  A full 50th Independence Commemorative Video will be available for sale very soon.  We ask that you support your fellow Bajan Legends, so that they may bring you more exciting shows in the near future.  If you're interested in purchasing a copy, please use the box below to send us your name, address and phone number. Click HERE for DVD Preview of the Show.

Also in this Edition is the Column, Notable Bajans...Where Are They Now? written by Allan Chandler.  Allan has managed to find veteran musician, Bertram Connell and has given us an interesting take on Mr. Connell's career and path in life. We also bring you our newest Editorial Writer, Dr. Basil Springer, GCM Change-Engine Consultant, Caribbean Business Enterprise Trust Inc. - CBET, whose columns appear in the Barbados Advocate.  You are welcome to submit comments.
